On Saturday, May 12th 2019 the Salem State Vikings celebrated the end of a successful academic year by hosting a free sports clinic for Special Olympic athletes. This half day event was planned and implemented by the Viking Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and led by various members of the varsity athletic teams and coaches.

The Wellness Center was full of cheer on Sunday (Feb. 25) as the Worcester State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted Special Olympics community basketball games inside the Lancer Gymnasium and the Multipurpose Gymnasium.

Sounds of laughter filled the air with a little friendly competition on Sunday, April 23 as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted a Special Olympics field day on the campus of Salem State University.

In October, Westfield State University and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), working in conjunction the Athletics Department's graduate assistants Dan Brady, Erica Griffo, and Kristen Hoffman to organize the support staff, hosted 13 Special Olympics flag football teams on Alumni Field. This is the fourth consecutive year Westfield hosted the event with help from Owl student-athletes and Athletics Department personnel. In total, 250 Special Olympians competed in 18 games. In addition to the players and coaches, cheerleaders, spectators, and student-athletes filled the complex to cheer on the players.

It was a day full of excitement, smiles, and competition despite the inclement weather at Westfield State University as more than 250 Special Olympians, cheerleaders, spectators, and student-athlete volunteers gathered at Alumni Field on a rainy and dreary Sunday in October to participate in the 2013 Massachusetts Special Olympics’ Flag Football assessment round.
