The Massachusetts Maritime Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the first of two Community Games basketball nights for Special Olympics of Cape Cod on Tuesday evening, as teams from Wareham, Hyannis, Freetown and New Bedford competed in four contests played inside the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.
The Wareham Wild Vikings, Mid Cape Flash, Whitney Wizards and New Bedford Hawks took part in the event, which Massachusetts Maritime has hosted for the last four years. Buccaneer senior women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse co-captain Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Bourne), along with sophomore men’s lacrosse, softball and baseball standouts Eli DiTullio (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), Emily Goodwin (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake) and Brandon Gallahue (Plymouth, Mass./Archbishop Williams), served as referees for all four games.
“It is an honor to once again welcome these hard-working athletes and coaches to the Academy,” Massachusetts Maritime Director of Athletics Garin Veris said of Tuesday’s event. “We couldn’t be prouder of our partnership with Special Olympics, and we look forward to continuing this great tradition of competition and camaraderie for many years to come.”
The Massachusetts Maritime SAAC will host a second Special Olympics Community Games night at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center on Tuesday, February 14th.
