Although the MASCAC isn't having fall contests this semester, the conference still wants to recognize the great success of our fall student-athletes. Each week, the MASCAC will honor a champion from the 2019 championship season as MASCAC Players of the Week brought to you by GEICO.
Starting this week, we will look back at the 2019 All-Conference teams from the fall season. Up first, we are highlighting the honorees from women's soccer.
Lydia Kinsman of Westfield State and Megan Richardson of MCLA earned the 2019 MASCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors and headline the 2019 MASCAC First Team All-Conference squad which is voted on by the coaches from around the conference.
Kinsman, a junior midfield from Granville, Mass. led the Owls to a 6-1 make in conference action and the number one seed in last week’s tournament. She finished the regular season with 12 goals and six assists for 30 points, all of which ended the year in the top five of the league. She also collected three game-winners. In the wins over Framingham State and Worcester State, Kinsman found the back of the net twice in both victories.
For the second straight year, MCLA’s Megan Richardson earns MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league in total saves with 186 while collecting a .816 save percentage, 2.56 goals against average with two wins and a shutout for the Trailblazers. In nine of her 17 games played this season, she registered double digits saves, including 21 against Salem State.
In her first season with the Vikings, Madison Pesce was named the 2019 MASCAC Rookie of the Year. The freshman from Danvers, Mass. helped anchor a Salem State defense that only allowed a 1.73 GAA, 0.96 shooting percentage with seven shutouts on the year.
Nicolle Wood of Salem State was voted by her peers as the 2019 Champion’s Choice Coach of the Year after leading the Vikings to a 5-1-1 mark in conference and the second seed in the conference tournament.
