Bridgewater State’s DeSousa Named 2016 Women’s Soccer Player of the Year, Headlines the 2016 MASCAC Women’s Soccer All-Conference Team
Lauren DeSousa of Bridgewater State has earned the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Year honors and headlines the 2016 MASCAC First Team All-Conference squad which is voted on by the coaches from around the conference.

Westfield, Mass. — Lauren DeSousa of Bridgewater State has earned the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Year honors and headlines the 2016 MASCAC First Team All-Conference squad which is voted on by the coaches from around the conference.
DeSousa, the junior from Taunton, Mass. was named the Player of the Year after finishing the regular season first in the MASCAC in goals-against average at 0.53, save percentage at .900, shutouts with nine and the lowest number of goals allowed with nine. She finished the season third in the league with six wins while helping the Bears to the third seed in this week’s MASCAC Tournament.
Bella Eduardo of Westfield State has been named the 2016 MASCAC Rookie of the Year. In her first season with the Owls, the freshman from Springfield, Mass. finished in the top five in several categories as the conclusion of the regular season, including first in game-winning goals (2), second in assists (5), third in total shots (50), fourth in points (15) and sixth in goals (5). Her efforts helped Westfield State to the second seed in the conference tournament.
Yasmina Carvalho of Bridgewater State was voted by her peers as the 2016 Champion’s Choice Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to a 4-1-2 record in MASCAC play and the third seed in the MASCAC Tournament.
Sitting on the MASCAC First Team with DeSousa and Eduardo are Alana Vincent of Bridgewater State, Tess Gorman, Michaela Hyland and Angela Pallotta of Framingham State, Natalie Caney and Megan Richardson of MCLA, Kaitlyn Curley of Salem State, Caitlyn MacGregor and Kate Matroni of Westfield State and Nicole Parenteau of Worcester State.
Earning a spot on the MASCAC Second Team are Drew Guay and Courtney Pepin of Bridgewater State. Maddie Medina and Samantha Zina of Fitchburg State, Allison Celia, Victoria Clancy, Talia Frazier and Devyn Malatesta of Salem State and Justine Butler, Briana Moreno and Vanessa O’Donnell of Worcester State.
