Bridgewater State's Cournoyer Named to NFCA Division III All-New England Team
Bridgewater State's Morgan Cournoyer was named to the NFCA Division III All-New England Third Team when the teams were announced by the association earlier this week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman first baseman Morgan Cournoyer has been selected to the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England Team.
Cournoyer, a third team selection, is the only member of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) to earn NFCA All-New England honors. She is also the first BSU freshman to earn the honor since Kaitlyn Gambino in 2003.
In 23 games this season, Cournoyer is batting .375 (21-56) with three home runs, two doubles, 14 runs scored and eight RBI. The Burrillville, Rhode Island product has also walked eight times, been hit by a pitch seven times and has posted an impressive .507 on base percentage.
In the field, Cournoyer has played outstanding defense all season long. She has committed just one error out of 149 possible chances and currently sports a .993 fielding percentage.
Cournoyer leads the MASCAC in getting hit by a pitch and ranks second in on base percentage, fourth in batting average and sixth in slugging percentage (.593). She is also tied for eighth in the conference in both home runs and walks.
The BSU softball team is currently 17-9-1 on the season. The Bears, who went 6-3-1 in conference play, battled back from a game down to defeat MASCAC regular season champion Framingham State University in the best-of-three MASCAC Championship Series, two games to one. The MASCAC title marked the tenth in program history and first since 2014.
By virtue of the MASCAC Championship Series victory, the Bears will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 23rd time in program history and first since 2014. The NCAA Division III Softball Tournament Selection Show will be webcast live at www.ncaa.com on Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM with regional play getting underway later on this week.
