Bridgewater State to Play Wellesley in Regionals of NCAA Division III Softball Tournament
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Champion Bridgewater State Bears will play the Wellesley College Blue in the Regionals of the NCAA Division Softball Tournament which begins on Friday, May 9.
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Champion Bridgewater State Bears will play the Wellesley College Blue in the Regionals of the NCAA Division Softball Tournament which begins on Friday, May 9.
The Bears claimed their second straight MASCAC Tournament Championship on Sunday with an 8-1 victory over Framingham State. Tournament MVP Amber White was lights out during the tournament, finishing with a 3-0 record, 0.33 ERA and 18 strikeouts. The squad ended the year 29-12, 13-1 MASCAC.
Facing off with Bridgewater State, Wellesley earned the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) automatic bid and finished the year 27-9, 15-3 NEWMAC. The two squads met in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 with Wellesley coming out on top in the contest.
The championship will use a new format this year that includes a super regional round of competition. The regional rounds will be held May 9-11. Four teams will compete at 14 regional sites and three teams will compete at two regional sites. The team advancing from each regional will compete in the super regional round May 16 and 17. The finals, hosted by Texas-Tyler, will be held May 22-27 at Suddenlink Field in Tyler, Texas. All rounds will use a double-elimination format.
