WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University announces the resignation of Lou Ann Simchak as its softball head coach.
Simchak retires after coaching the Westfield State softball squad for the past 13 years, compiling an overall record of 225-224-2. She led the Owls to a 114-73 record and five consecutive 20-win seasons during the past five years, including a school record 26 victories in 2010.
During her tenure Westfield was the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season co-champions in 2009, 2010 and 2011. She also guided the Owls to four regular season runner-up finishes and was selected MASCAC softball coach of the year four times.
“I would like to thank Lou Ann for her hard word in developing Westfield State into a highly competitive and successful softball program,” said Westfield State athletics director Richard Lenfest.
Simchak, a 1977 Westfield State graduate and 2001 Hall of Fame inductee, will remain employed at Westfield State as coordinator of the university’s intramurals and recreation program.
