Murphy of Fitchburg State Named MASCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year, Headlines 2022 All-Conference Team
Senior Abigail Murphy of Fitchburg State named the 2022 MASCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year honors after finishing as the top overall finisher at the conference championship on Saturday. Her result also headlines this year’s All-Conference team.

Westfield, Mass. — Senior Abigail Murphy of Fitchburg State named the 2022 MASCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year honors after finishing as the top overall finisher at the conference championship on Saturday. Her result also headlines this year's All-Conference team.
Murphy, a senior from Quincy, Mass., became the first Falcons female runner since 2000 to earn MASCAC Runner of the Year accolades after she crossed the line first last Saturday. She finished the race with a 5k time of 19:16 to set a collegiate-best in the event.
The 2022 Co-Rookies of the Year are Nicole Major of Bridgewater State and Shea Hamel of Westfield State. Major, a junior from Andover, Mass., was the second runner across the line with a personal best 5k time of 19:20 with Hamel right behind in third with a PR time of 19:28 to share this year's accolade.
In her first year at the helm and leading the Owls to the team title, Marlee Berg-Haryasz of Westfield State was named the 2022 BSN Sports Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Sitting on this year's All-Conference Team with Murphy, Major and Hamel are Maura Bruns of Bridgewater State, Lilah McAndrew of Fitchburg State, Emily Newcomb of Framingham State and Tealei Chandonnet, Julianne Kelly, Ariann Lecours and Mia McDonald of Westfield State.
