Westfield State Wins Their 12th Straight MASCAC Women's Cross Country Title
The Westfield State Owls women's cross country has claimed their 12th straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at the MASCAC Championship hosted by Worcester State.
PAXTON, Mass. -- The Westfield State Owls women's cross country has claimed their 12th straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at the MASCAC Championship hosted by Worcester State.
The Owls finished with 38 points while Bridgewater State was right behind in second with 42 points. Coming in third with 78 points was Worcester State followed in fourth by Fitchburg State with 106 points. Framingham State was next in fifth with 117 points. Rounding out the field in sixth and seventh are Massachusetts Maritime and MCLA with 188 points and 199 points, respectively.
Crossing the line first for the second straight year was Westfield State's Jessie Cardin. She finished the 5k course in a time of 18:41 to earn MASCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year. Joining Cardin as a MASCAC All-Conference honoree were teammates Ashley Monahan who finished third with a time of 19:29 and Megan Erickson who claimed ninth in 20:24.
Danielle Poto of Bridgewater State landed in second with a 5k time of 19:03. The sister duo of Rachel and Emily Ducharme earned All-Conference honors as well with a seventh and eighth place time of 20:11 and 20:14, respectively with Jessica Roberts grabbing 10th in 20:38.
Mia Rogers of Worcester State placed fourth to take home the MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors as the top first-time performer. She crossed the line in a time of 19:32.
In fifth place earning All-Conference honors is Taylor Roberts of Framingham State who finished the race in 19:36.
Closing out the All-Conference honorees is Nicole Gaffney from Fitchburg State with a 5k time of 20:06.
Jim Simoneau was named the 2015 Champion's Choice Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers for leading the Bears to a second place finish.
