Bridgewater State's McDonough, Sands Compete at Day Two of NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
Bridgewater State University graduate student Alison McDonough and senior Serenity Sands competed on Friday afternoon at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Bridgewater State University graduate student Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) and senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) competed on Friday afternoon at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Cield Championships held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
McDonough finished tenth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles while Sands checked in at 12th in the high jump. The duo earned second team All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for placing in the top 16 in their respective event.
McDonough recorded a time of 14.15 seconds in the hurdles as she finished third in her heat.
Sands, who was one of three student-athletes from New England competing in the high jump, posted a mark of five feet, six inches (1.68m). She cleared her first three heights with the final two coming on her third and final attempt.
Junior Sarah Hoskins of Loras College captured the national title in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 8.5 inches (1.740). Teammate and classmate Grace Ally placed second (5'8.5"/1.74m) while Elizabeth Barre of Carnegie Mellon University finished third (5'7.25"/1.71m) to round out the top three placewinners.
McDonough was making her second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships while Sands was appearing in her third straight.
