Westfield State Claims 2016 MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship
The Westfield State Owls have claimed the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday afternoon at UMass Dartmouth.

The Westfield State Owls have claimed the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday afternoon at UMass Dartmouth.
The Owls finished with 246 points while runner-up Bridgewater State was next with 222 points. Worcester State was third with 99 and coming in fourth and fifth were Fitchburg State with 71 and Massachusetts Maritime with four, respectively.
Westfield State took home eight individual honors and top spot in the 4x800. Naloti Palma led the way with three top finishes in the shot put (13.37m/43' 10.50"), discus (41.61m/ 136' 6") and hammer throw (45.51m/ 149' 4"), breaking the MASCAC and New England Alliance records in the discus. Ashley Monahan grabbed a MASCAC title in the 800 meter run (2:22.17), while Jessie Cardin 1,500 meter run (4:47.96) and Kara Penney 3,000 meter steeplechase (12:21.71) were the top league winners. Ashley Craig set a new MASCAC record in pole vault with at top clearing of 3.50m (11' 5.75"). Meghan Howe closed out the individual winners with a first place finish in the triple jump 10.63m (34' 10.50"), The 4x800 relay quartet of Autumn Brown, Monahan, Nicole Lanoie and Cardin took home the MASCAC title in the relay with a conference and Alliance best time of 9:42.70.
Bridgewater State landed seven individual champions and the final two relays. Traci Perry was a four-time winner in the 100 meter dash (12.84), 200 meter dash (26.45) and both relays. Jayci Andrews set a new MASCAC mark in the 400 meter dash (56.66) while also finishing first in the long jump (5.40m/ 17' 8.75") and racing in both relays. Danielle Poto broke a league record by less that one second in the 5,000 meter run (17:49.91) while Rachel Ducharme was the MASCAC and Alliance champ in the 10,000 meters (40:20.52). Samantha Richner tied the conference record in the high jump (1.62m/5' 3.75") while also racing in a relay. Joining Perry, Richner and Andrews in the winning 4x100 relay was Madeline McNamara with a time of 48.61. Andrews, Perry, Amanda Lane and Abbie Pustis also won the 4x400 relay in a MASCAC record breaking time of 4:02.16.
Worcester State collected two MASCAC individual crowns. Dalena Le in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.17) and Stephanie McFadries in the javelin 41.29m (135' 05").
Closing out the top finishers was Annie Woolley of Fitchburg State who claimed the MASCAC title in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.98.
Southern Maine finished in first for the Alliance while Westfield State and Bridgewater State came in second and third with 129.5 and 127 points, respectively.
