Bridgewater State Men and Worcester State Women Look To Reclaim Titles At 2014 MASCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships
The Bridgewater State men and the Worcester State women look to reclaim their titles at the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, April 26. Joining them are student-athletes from Fitchburg State, Massachusetts Maritime and Westfield State.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State men and the Worcester State women look to reclaim their titles at the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, April 26. Joining them are student-athletes from Fitchburg State, Massachusetts Maritime and Westfield State.
The MASCAC Conference Championship is run in conjunction with the New England Alliance meet, which features participating schools from the Little East conference. The championships will be held on the campus of UMass Dartmouth in North Dartmouth, Mass. beginning at 11:00 a.m.
In 2013, the Bridgewater State Bears took home their second straight men's crown with a 22 point win over runner-up Westfield State. Bridgewater State returns several of their top finishers from last year's squad, including Brian Espinosa, who finished first in both the 100 and 200 meters, Josh Goehring, who broke a 27-year-old record in the 800 meters last season and Joshua Danner-Hicks, who claimed a conference record in the triple jump.
Bridgewater State finished with 217 points, winning the title over Westfield State's team score of 195 points. Worcester State was next in third place with 154 points, while Fitchburg State (49 points) and Massachusetts Maritime (31 points) rounded out the finishers.
On the women's side, the Worcester State Lancers look for their third straight outdoor title and fourth in the last five years. Returning to defend their crown for the Lancers are last year's top finishers Christy Deininger, Alyssa Jasper and Amanda Caldarone in the 110 meter hurdles, javelin and long jump, respectively.
Worcester State collected 222 points over Westfield State's team score of 210 points. Bridgewater State was next in third place with 109 points, while Fitchburg State (86 points) and Massachusetts Maritime (no team score) rounded out the field.
