Six Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women’s lacrosse student-athletes were honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as All-Region recipients.
Bridgewater State’s Emily Hiller and Framingham State’s Hanna McMahon were both named All-Berkshire Region First Teamers. Meanwhile, Kara Banagan and Sam Donahoe from Westfield State and Lauren Arbec and Lily Gendron from Worcester State were All-Berkshire Region Second Teamers.
Hiller, the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Year, tallied 37 goals and 11 assists for 48 points in ten games this season to go along with 23 ground balls, 62 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. The Marion, Massachusetts product led the MASCAC in goals, scoring and draw controls in 2021 and tied for fourth in assists. She was also fourth in the conference in caused turnovers and eighth in ground balls.
McMahon earned All-MASCAC honors twice during her career and this season tallied 29 goals with 10 assists for 39 points. McMahon finished the season ranked second in the MASCAC in goals scored and third in total points. McMahon also recorded 16 ground balls with 43 draw controls on the year.
Donohoe led the Owls with 29 goals, 38 points and 39 draw controls, and snagged 17 ground balls. The Owls' fifth-year senior finished her career with 105 career goals and 29 assists for 123 points, 11th on the Owls career points list, and ninth in career goals.
Banagan completed the year playing eight games in goal and posted an 8.87 goals-against average and saved 53.2 percent of shots on goal, both of which are the second-best single-season totals in school history.
Arbec was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year and to the MASCAC All-Conference earlier this month. She graduates ranking third on Worcester State's all-time caused turnover list with 95 and sixth on the all-time ground balls list with 145, despite two abbreviated seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gendron had a breakout year for the Lancers to be named the MASCAC’s Co-Rookie of the Year. Gendron was Worcester State's leading scorer in 2021, recording 22 goals and five assists for 27 points. She also recorded 27 ground balls, tied for third in the conference, tied for sixth with 22 goals, and tied for eighth with 27 draw controls.
The IWLCA has honored 272 student-athletes in Division III with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2021. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will announce the 2021 All-American teams and Players of the Year in June.
