Bridgewater State's Grassi Named NEWBA Player of the Week
Bridgewater State University senior guard Kylie Grassi has been selected as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior guard Kylie Grassi has been selected as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week.
A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Grassi averaged 21 points, eight rebounds (2.5 offensive), two assists and three steals in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears. She also shot 41.9% (13-31) from the floor, 40% (2-5) from behind the arc and 60.9% (14-23) at the free throw line.
Grassi notched 12 points, seven rebounds (three offensive), one assist and one steal in a 63-61 win over WPI, and tallied 30 points, nine rebounds (two offensive), three assists and five steals in a 99-85 victory over #13 UMass Dartmouth.
Grassi surpassed Jenna Williamson '14 (1,365 points) as the Bears’ all-time scoring leader in the win against the nationally ranked Corsairs.
Through eight games this season, Grassi is averaging 20.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and two steals. She is also shooting 35% (14-40) from three-point range and 68.1% (47-69) at the charity stripe.
Grassi currently leads the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in scoring and made free throws, and ranks second in three-point shooting She is also third in both made field goals (52) and minutes played (37.9 mpg), fifth in made three-pointers, sixth in free throw shooting and tied for ninth in steals.
On a national level, Grassi is presently tied for 14th in all of Division III in made free throws, and ranks 18th in minutes played and 25th in scoring.
In 83 games over four seasons with the Bears, Grassi has amassed 1,367 points, 357 rebounds, 192 assists, 48 blocks and 167 steals. She is tied with Laurie Berryman (1992-96) for the Bears' all-time lead with 373 made free throws.
Earlier today, Grassi was selected to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for the second time in her career. On Monday, Grassi was named the MASCAC Player of the Week for the second time this season and eighth time in her career.
The NEWBA Player of the Week honor marks the first of Grassi's career. She has now been chosen to the NEWBA Team of the Week an impressive 14 times.
