After the duo was named MASCAC Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Year, Kylie Grassi of Bridgewater State and Gwendolyn Carpenter of Framingham State earn d3hoops.com All-Region One team.
Grassi, who is making her second straight appearance on the all-region squad, averaged a school record 20.6 points in 26 games this season as well as 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.3 steals. She also shot 43.8% (182-416) from the field, 30.3% (30-99) from behind the arc and 75.4% (141-187) at the free throw line. The Plymouth, Massachusetts product became just the second player in BSU women's basketball history to score 500 points (535) in a season joining Colleen Feeney who tallied 548 points in 2007-2008.
Carpenter was previously named MASCAC Co-Player of the Year and a NEWBA All-Region selction earns third-team honors for D3hoops.com. Carpenter was the anchor for the MASCAC Regular Season Champion Rams who were 11-1 in league play this season. Carpenter averaged 9.5 points and 5.9 rebounds, but she made the biggest impact with her league-leading 193 assists, second-best free throw percentage at 82.6 and third-highest three-point percentage at 36.4. Her assists per game average of 7.4 led Division III and twice this season, she registered a triple double which is the third-most in Division III this season. In a pivotal win at Westfield State, Carpenter finished with 21 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds.
Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and schools and conferences. There were 812 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
