Bridgewater State Wins Sixth Consecutive MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship

The Bears finished with 269 points to win the title over second place finisher Westfield State with 174. Landing in third was Fitchburg State with 97 while Worcester State and Mass. Maritime
rounded out the team scores in fifth and sixth, respectively with 59 and 11 points.
Bridgewater State claimed 11 individual titles and two relays on the day. Kevin McBirney was a two-time champion in both the 800 (1:57.81) and 1,500 (4:07.74). Stephen Spofford crossed the line first in the 400m run in a time of 50.06. Kyle Ackroyd started the winning for the Bears in the 10,000m which began the running events with a time of 32:49.28. Chigozie Adigwe and Michael Neitlich rounded out the track winners in the 110m hurdles (15.18) and 400m hurdles (57.95), respectively.
On the field side, Jason Dann was first in two events, having the top throw in the discus (46.06m) and hammer (52.90m). Thomas Barinelli had the furthest leap in the long jump at 6.77m while Corey Stalters had the best toss in the shot put at 15.27m. Neitlich, Spofford, Nick Grace and Nate Branco were the fastest quartet in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:30.49. In the 4x100, Michael Young, Jacob DeAndrade, Mason Matias and Spofford claimed the title with a time of 42.40.
The Owls came home with three individual and one relay crown at the end of the day. Nathan Sylven crossed the line first in both the 3,000m steeplechase (10:09.96) and 5,000m run (16:06.17). Earning the other individual title was Casey Tang with a top clearing in the pole vault of 2.65m.
Lorcan Bergeron, Rowan Gottshall, Gordon Johnson and Colin Mahoney claimed the men's 4x800m relay title with a time of 8:45.56.
Fitchburg State also won three individual titles on Friday. Eric Shimiyimana was the triple jump champion with a top leap of 13.09m. Liam Bourassa threw the javelin 63.07m and Tyler Kwamo cleared 1.92 to grab the high jump crown.
Rounding out the individual champions was Worcester State's Seth Boudreau and Brodie Jacques. Boudreau set a personal record in the 100m dash with a time of 10.69. Jacques was the champion in the 200m dash with a season-best time of 22.10.
The qualifying men's competitors will head to Mount Holyoke next weekend for the New England Division III championship meet on May 3 and 4.
