Bridgewater State Goes Back-to-Back at MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship

The Bears took home 237 points over second place finisher Westfield State who had 141. Fitchburg State was third with 130 while Mass. Maritime and Worcester State rounded out the finishers in fourth and fifth with 50 and 48 points, respectively.
Bridgewater State had 12 individual champions on Saturday with four finishing with two honors. Trevor Wysong captured top honors in both the 10,000-meter run (34:12.86) and the 5,000-meter run (15:15.39), while Barinelli placed first in the long jump (21'11.75"/6.70m) as well as the high jump (6'4.75"/1.95m). Adigwe won both hurdle events as he posted a time of 15.01 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 59.77 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. McBirney was the first to cross the finish line in the 1,500-meter run (4:04.82) and the 800-meter run (1:57.95).
Matthew Lighten broke his own school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.71 seconds. He eclipsed his previous mark of 10.72 seconds set earlier this season at the Corsair Classic. Jacob Belcher placed first in the hammer throw with a toss of 146 feet, three inches (44.59m). Corey Stalters broke his owns school record in the javelin with a distance of 207 feet, three inches (63.19m). He eclipsed his previous mark of 205 feet, three inches (62.56m) set earlier this season at the Jerry Gravel Classic. Gavin Weldon grabbed top honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.06 seconds.
For Westfield State, the Owls captured one individual title and two of the relays. Brenden LaForest crossed the line first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.14. He then joined teammates Lucas Roberts, Brendan DeBarber and Colby Ranck to win the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:28.51. DeBarber, Ranck and Roberts along with Sebastian Metcalfe claimed the 4x100 meter relay crown with a time of 44.29.
Fitchburg State had three individual honorees and the final relay on Saturday. Nick Zeoli was a two-time champion in the shot put with a top throw of 13.75m and discus with a top distance of 41.80m. Gene Bouthiette had the top clearing in the men's pole vault with a height of 3.55m for the MASCAC title. The quartet of Trevor Fields, Nick Sachetta, Christian Bueno-Campos and Taban Manyok earned the 4x800 meter relay title with a time of 8:25.15.
Closing out the individual winners was Worcester State with two. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Drew Fottler outleaped the competition with a time of 9:59.92 to earn the MASCAC crown. On the field side, Kyle Haley had the top leap in the triple jump with a distance of 13.37m.
The teams will compete again next Friday and Saturday as they head to Williams College for the DIII New England meet.
