Bridgewater State Grabs Top Spot in 2024 MASCAC Men's Soccer Tournament

Starting off the first round action on Wednesday, November 6, #3 Fitchburg State hosts #6 Mass. Maritime at 3 pm while #4 Worcester State hosts #5 Salem State at 4 pm. The first round winners will then move on to face #1 Bridgewater State and #2 Westfield State on Friday, November 8 with the Bears playing the lowest remaining seed at 3:30 pm while the Owls get the other remaining seed at 7 pm.
The two semifinal winners then face off on Sunday, November 10 at the highest remaining seed for the MASCAC tournament crown and NCAA Tournament berth.
The Bears earned a first round bye after finishing 6-1 in league play for the regular season title. Gavin Norton led the team with six goals and six assists for 18 points with a .375 shot percentage and one game-winner.
The Owls grab the other first round bye after going 4-1-2 in conference action for the second seed. Between the pipes Luke Theroux registered a 1.31 GAA, .800 save percentage and 64 saves, including six wins and four shutouts.
Fitchburg State gets first round hosting duties with the third seed. The Falcons went 3-2-2 this season. In his first year with the team, Justin Job found the back of the net five times with one assist for 11 points, including three game-winners.
Worcester State has the final first round hosting privileges after winning two and tying three times this year. Mal Hawkins closed out the regular season first in the MASCAC with eight goals while assisting on one for 17 points. He went 1-1 in penalty kicks while draining a game-winner.
Salem State and Mass. Maritime round out the tournament field with the fifth and sixth seed, respectively. Vanilton Xavier let the Vikings with five goals and four assists for 14 points while scoring a game-winner this season. For the Buccaneers, Brody Calvert tied for the top spots in goals with eight with an assist for 17 points during the regular season.
At the 2023 MASCAC Tournament, top seeded Bridgewater State netted five first half goals to defeat second seed Westfield State, 5-0 for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
