Fitchburg State's Brian Amaral, UMass Dartmouth's Shaquille Brummitt and Diego Hebra and Salem State's Kevin Gallo have earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) weekly honors for their respective sports.
Amaral earned his second ECAC DIII New England Rookie of the Week honor after finishing in 13th place at the James Early Invitational with an 8K time of 26.37. Earlier in the week, he was named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week as well.
Brummitt and Hebra are the ECAC Football Defensive and Rookie of the Week, respectively. This is the third award for Brummitt this week having been named MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week and the New England Football Writers Association DII/DIII Gold Helmet Award winner. In the Corsairs' 37-10 win over Bridgewater State, he hauled in a career-high three interceptions that stopped three consecutive possessions in the second half to help preserve the victory.
Hebra earned MASCAC Special Teams and Rookie of the Week after he recorded his first collegiate touchdown in the first quarter after blocking a punt and running it 29 yards. The freshman also blocked a second punt and led the team with nine tackles, including eight solo stops, and a pass breakup.
Gallo was named the ECAC DIII New England Player of the Week a few days after winning the MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week honor. He recorded three goals and an assist in a 1-0-1 week for the Vikings. The sophomore midfielder netted two goals and assisted on the game-winner in a 3-2 double-overtime win over Westfield State. In a 1-1 draw with Nichols, he collected the Vikings' only goal.
