Westfield, Mass.- Newcomer Dylan Pereira nabs the first MASCAC men's soccer player and rookie of the week honors after an outstanding opening week for MCLA.
Player & Rookie of the Week
Dylan Pereira, MCLA (Fr., F, Ludlow, Mass.) -- Had a solid start for MCLA in his first week of play with six goals and 12 points. Four goals came in a 10-1 win against Green Mountain. Named the Offensive MVP at the Norwich Tournament where they defeated Johnson State and Green Mountain.
MASCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Matt Bagley, Bridgewater St. (Sr., GK Braintree, Mass.) -- Posted a 0.867 save percentage (13-15) and a 0.67 goals against average in a 1-2 week for the Bears including nine stops in a pair of 1-0 setbacks to Babson and Eastern Connecticut (both New England regionally ranked) and four stops in a 3-0 shutout over Plymouth State.
Jared Burns, Fitchburg St. (Fr., F, E. Bridgewater, Mass.) -- Collected five points with two goals and one assist in a 3-1 span for the Falcons, including a game-winning, double-overtime tally vs. Elms (1-0) and a game-winning marker vs. Becker (4-0).
Konnor Scarponi, Massachusetts Maritime (Fr., F, Brunswick, Maine) -- Made first collegiate goal stand up as game-winner in Buccaneers' 2-1 victory at Becker.
Alex Wolfel, Worcester St. (Sr., F, Unionville, CT) -- Netted a trio of goals in a 0-0-3 week for the Lancers. His first of the season came in the 87th minute in the season opener against Clark leading to a 1-1 double-overtime tie. He then had a pair of goals in a 2-2 double-overtime thriller against Rhode Island College. His second goal of that contest was once again in the 87th minute to force overtime.
Nominated by the participating schools from around the conference, the winners are chosen based on their performance in their respective sport throughout the week.
