Whitson Headlines 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team
Senior Brendan Whitson of Worcester State is the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year and heads the All-Conference team which is voted on by the eight coaches around the conference.
WESTFIELD, Mass. — Senior Brendan Whitson of Worcester State is the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Year and heads the All-Conference team which is voted on by the eight coaches around the conference.
Leading the Lancers to the top seed in this week's tournament and their first undefeated season since 2005, Whitson, a senior from Auburn, Mass., finished top of the list in the conference with 12 goals and three assists on the year for 27 points. With a 10-3-4, 6-0-1 MASCAC record, Worcester State earned the regular season title and a first round bye in the conference tournament.
Dylan Pereira of MCLA was tabbed as the 2013 MASCAC Rookie of the Year after a season that saw the freshman from Ludlow, Mass. net 11 goals and an assist on the season for 23 points. For his efforts in earning the fourth seed in the conference tournament and returning Massachusetts Maritime to the post-season for the first time in nine years, the Buccaneers Greg Perry was named 2013 MASCAC Champion's Choice Coach of the Year.
Joining Whitson on the 2013 MASCAC first-team All-Conference squad were Bridgewater State's Craig Shadduck and Luke Samperi, Framingham State's Bryan DaSilva and Nicholas Cotter, MCLA's Edward Boateng, Worcester State's Derek Alves, Brian Cormier and Nick Zucco, Massachusetts Maritime's Asa Mills and Fitchburg State's Colin Shea.
The 2013 MASCAC second-team is comprised of Massachusetts Maritime's Rob Robbs, Bridgewater State's Nicholas Keddie and Kolin Campbell, Westfield State's Nick Tavares and Dan Brady, Fitchburg State's Steven Martinez and Aidan Hanratty, MCLA's Robert Dalby and Tyler Guzzi and Worcester's State's Alex Wolfel and Jake Denver.
