MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Awards 1/29
UMass Dartmouth's Michael Mania and Collin Patterson along with Plymouth State's Brandon Shantz take home the MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Player, Rookie and Goalie of the Week after an undefeated week in league action.
Player of the Week
Michael Mania, UMass Dartmouth
Senior, Forward, Bayville, N.J.
Mania recorded a team-high five points on a squad-best three goals as the Corsairs went 2-0 in MASCAC action last week. In a 3-2 victory over Westfield State, Mania recorded two assists, including on the game-winning goal. He then recorded his first career hat trick, tallying the first two goals of the game, before adding a power play goal to open the second frame for a 4-0 lead. The Corsairs posted a 9-2 win over Framingham State. For the week, he was a +3. |
Goalie of the Week |
Shantz stopped every shot he faced to post a shutout in his lone appearance of the week. Shantz finished with 24 saves to keep Worcester State off the scoreboard in a 7-0 win on Saturday. |
Rookie of the Week |
Patterson recorded a team-best five points as the Corsairs went 2-0 in MASCAC action. In a 3-2 victory against Westfield State, he notched the squad’s first goal to tie the contest in the opening period. Patterson then scored two goals, back-to-back in the second period. He also had two assists (including on the eventual game-winner) as the Corsairs defeated Framingham State, 9-2. For the week, he was a +2 with a team-high 11 shots. |
