Springfield Claims 2023 MASCAC Men's Golf Championship, MCLA's Gover Wins Individual Champion
Springfield College continued their momentum from day one to claim the 2023 MASCAC Men's Golf team title. MCLA's Mat Gover earned top individual medalist honors while also being named Rookie of the Year for his two day performance.
Springfield College continued their momentum from day one to claim the 2023 MASCAC Men's Golf team title, their second since joining the conference in 2019. MCLA's Mat Gover earned top individual medalist honors while also being named Rookie of the Year for his two day performance.
Springfield (302, 321, +33), finished ahead of runner-up MCLA (320, 324, +36) while Salem State placed third (313, 332, +44).
MCLA standout rookie Mat Gover (Atkinson, N.H.) earned individual medalist honors, shooting a 76 on day two to go with a 71 (-1) on Saturday for a +3, 147 to beat out Springfield's David Girourd (Chicopee, Mass.) by six strokes, (75, 78, 153 +9) and Salem State's Ethan Doyle (Salem, Mass.), who ended with a (72, 81, 153 +9).
The Pride increased their day one lead behind Girourd, Nick DeMaio (West Springfield, Mass.) and Amir Ardolino (Wilbraham, Mass.), who all finished in the top-five. DeMaio scored a (72, 84, 156) while Ardolino shot an (81, 76, 157).
Gover also earned MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors, while The BSN Sports Coach of the Year was awarded to Joe Eadie of Springfield.
Worcester State finished in fourth place (337, 328, 665) while Westfield State came in fifth (376, 360, 736).
The MASCAC teams have a few more fall tournaments, including the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Tournament October 14-15. The Pride earned the MASCAC automatic qualifier and will competing at the NCAA DIII Tournament May 14-17 in Boulder City, Nevada.
