Up first #3 Worcester State hosts #6 MCLA while #4 Framingham State hosts #5 Bridgewater State both at 6 pm. The two quarterfinal winners will then move on to Thursday where the lowest remaining seed will face Westfield State at 7 pm and the highest remaining seed will take on #2 Salem State at 6 pm.
The semifinal winners will then face off on Saturday, March 1 for the MASCAC Tournament title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament at the highest remaining seed.
The Owls claimed the MASCAC Regular Season title with a 9-3 conference mark and a first round bye. Kenneth Rogers Jr. has been a force in his first season with the team, averaging a league-leading 19.1 points and second-most rebounds at 9.3. At the end of the regular season, he was third in assists with 96 while also collecting 40 steals and seven blocks.
Earning the other first round bye with an 8-4 MASCAC record for the second seed is Salem State. The Vikings have three student-athletes averaging 17 points per game or more with Tyrese Rho leading the way with 18.1 while shooting 47.7 percent from the field. He also registered 67 assists, 66 total rebounds, 35 steals and 12 blocks.
Worcester State lands the third seed with a 7-5 mark. Leading the Lancers into the postseason is Brandon Goris who is averaging 17.4 points per game on a blistering 54 percent from the field. He ended the regular season first in the MASCAC in steals with 71 and second in assists with 127 while grabbing 87 total rebounds on the year.
Grabbing the final hosting responsibility is Framingham State with the fourth seed. The Rams were 6-6 and look to Joshua St. Jean for their playoff push who averaged 14.1 points and 8.5 rebounds with a 61.1 shooting percentage from the field. His rebounds and shooting percentage were atop the conference at the end of the regular season. Defensively, he finished with 18 steals and 12 blocks.
Rounding out the tournament field with the fifth and sixth seed is Bridgewater State and MCLA. Dante Kikuba led the Bears with 14.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while registering the most assists in the conference with 150 and fourth-most steals at 54. For the Trailblazers, Quentin Gittens averaged 17.2 points and 8.8 rebounds while collecting 47 assists and 10 steals.
Last year at the MASCAC Championship, top seed Worcester State repeated as MASCAC Champions after narrowly defeating Bridgewater State in overtime, 80-79 to grab a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
