Bridgewater State's Lofton Headlines the 2014-15 MASCAC Men's Basketball All-Conference Team
Senior Michael Lofton of Bridgewater State is the 2014-15 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and heads the All-Conference team which is voted on by the seven coaches around the conference.

Westfield, Mass. — Senior Michael Lofton of Bridgewater State is the 2014-15 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and heads the All-Conference team which is voted on by the seven coaches around the conference.
Helping to lead the Bears to 10 conference wins and the second seed in the MASCAC Men’s Basketball Tournament, the senior from Mansfield, Mass. finished first in the conference in points per game (18.9) and rebounds per game (10.5). Lofton also was third in the league in field goal percentage (55), fifth in total steals (38) sixth in assists (64) and seventh in blocks (28). This is the third straight year Lofton has been recognized as a MASCAC All-Conference honoree.
Drew Healy of Salem State has been recognized as the 2014-15 MASCAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year. The freshman from Lowell, Mass. tallied 155 points in his freshman campaign while also collecting 123 rebounds, 29 blocks, 15 assists and 14 steals.
For his efforts in leading his squad to the top seed in the conference tournament and an 11-1 conference mark, Rich Sutter of Westfield State was named the 2014-15 MASCAC Champion’s Choice Coach of the Year.
Joining Lofton on the 2014-15 MASCAC first-team All-Conference squad were Bridgewater State’s Kyle Gibson, Fitchburg State’s Kwame Lee and Westfield State’s Grant Cooper and Andre King.
The 2014-15 MASCAC second-team is comprised of Fitchburg State Givaughn Jones, Salem State’s Hamed Akanni and Bryan Ortiz, Westfield State’s Robby Jones and Worcester State’s Paul Brooks.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s first Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC core member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men’s ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013.
