Fitchburg State Basketball Teams Host Special Olympics Tournament
Fitchburg State University recently hosted the Massachusetts Special Olympics Basketball Tournament at the Recreation Center, which featured roughly 30 Special Olympians as well as their coaches and partners in attendance.

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State University recently hosted the Massachusetts Special Olympics Basketball Tournament at the Recreation Center, which featured roughly 30 Special Olympians as well as their coaches and partners in attendance.
As part of the NCAA Division III partnership with the Special Olympics, members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s basketball teams and coaches served as officials, scorers, timers, cheerleaders and announcers with four games featured throughout the event.
With the success of the Massachusetts Special Olympics Basketball Tournament, both the Fitchburg State student athletes and coaches and the Special Olympians plan to continue the event on an annual basis
Currently, Special Olympics Massachusetts has 179 basketball teams in training, representing programs from across the state with the teams split into three categories, Traditional, Unified Sports and Unified Player Development.
