Fitchburg State Earns Top Seed in 2024 MASCAC Field Hockey Tournament
After earning their first regular season title since coming under the MASCAC name, Fitchburg State grabbed the top seed in the 2024 MASCAC Field Hockey Tournament which begins on Tuesday with first round action.

Starting the tournament on Tuesday, #3 Worcester State hosts #6 Salem State while #4 Framingham State hosts #5 Bridgewater State both at 7 pm. Then on Thursday, November 7, #1 Fitchburg State will play the lowest remaining seed at 6 pm while #2 Westfield State faces the other remaining seed at 7 pm.
The two semifinal winners will then meet on Saturday, November 9 at the highest remaining seed for the MASCAC title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
The Falcons went 8-2 to claim the MASCAC Regular Season title. Leading the conference in goals and points is Sophia Yates who has found the back of the net 16 times with two assists for 34 points. She also collected four game-winning goals and a defensive save this season.
Earning the other first round bye is Westfield State who was 7-3 in league action this year. Closing out the regular seasons second in goals and points is Kaleigh Murphy. She talled 11 goals and five assists for 27 points, including four game-winning goals.
Last season's champions Worcester State are the third seed with a 6-4 mark and hosting duties for first round action. In goal, Madison Ferrara started all 17 games for the Lancers, registering a 2.31 GAA, 134 saves and a .770 save percentage.
Framingham State is the other first round host as the fourth seed. The Rams were 5-5 this season and led by Natalia Roehr who finished the regular season with six goals and one assist for 13 points on 29 shots.
Closing out the 2024 tournament field are Bridgewater State and Salem State with the fifth and sixth seed, respectively. In her first season with the Bears, Samantha Souza has made an impact, netting 10 goals and two assists for 22 points, including two game-winners. For the Vikings in goal, Izzy Mosley leads the league with 204 saves while collecting a 3.85 GAA and .761 save percentage.
During last season's tournament title game, top seed Worcester State came out victorious with a 2-0 win over third seed Framingham State to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
