Fitchburg State’s Yates Named Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Year, Framingham State’s Serra Earns Defensive Player of the Year, Headline the 2024 MASCAC Field Hockey All-Conference Team
Sophia Yates of Fitchburg State and Angelina Serra of Framingham State have earned the 2024 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors and headline the 2024 MASCAC First Team All-Conference squad which is voted on by the coaches from around the conference prior to the conference tournament.

Westfield, Mass. — Sophia Yates of Fitchburg State and Angelina Serra of Framingham State have earned the 2024 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors and headline the 2024 MASCAC First Team All-Conference squad which is voted on by the coaches from around the conference prior to the conference tournament.
Yates, a junior from Woodstock, Vt., helped Fitchburg State to their first-ever MASCAC Regular Season title and top seed in the tournament. She led the conference with 16 goals, 34 points and 98 shots this season while assisting on two goals. Four of her markers were game-winners while she also made a defensive save. Her best game this season came in the win over Salem State where she recorded a hat trick in the 5-1 victory.
Joining Yates as a major award winner is Angelina Serra, the 2024 MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year. The graduate midfielder from N. Chelmsford, Mass., tallied five goals and three assists for 13 points on 28 shots while tallying a game-winner. She also had a game-winner and a defensive save. She helped the Rams hold opponents to a .151 shooting percentage and eight wins, including one shut out.
After solid first year campaigns with their respective teams, Samathana Souza of Bridgewater State and Samantha Jones of Fitchburg State are the 2024 MASCAC Co-Rookie of the Year. Souza, a freshman from Dartmouth, Mass., finished with 26 points on 12 goals and two assists, including three that were game-winners. Her 12 goals were the second-most in the league this season. In the win against Anna Maria, she found the back of the net four times.
Jones, a freshman from Uxbridge, Mass., was fifth in the league in both goals and assists with nine and six, respectively for 24 points. She also netted a game-winner. Over her 19 games started, she scored a goal in nine of the contests, including a goal and assist in the wins over Framingham State and Salem State.
After leading the Falcons to the MASCAC Regular Season title and top seed in the tournament, Kayla Quinn of Fitchburg State was voted the 2024 BSN Sports Field Hockey Coach of the Year by her peers.
Sitting on the MASCAC First Team with Yates, Serra and Souza are Jenna Morse, Riley O’Brien and Alexis Raymond of Fitchburg State, Julie Hadley of Framingham State, Abby Clark and Kaleigh Murphy of Westfield State and Allison Keenan and Natayla Morin of Worcester State.
Earning a spot on the 2024 MASCAC Second Team with Jones are Noelee Cornetta, Lexi James, Emelia Westwater and Abbie Zuber of Bridgewater State, Jessica Morse and Autumn Tibbetts of Fitchburg State, Grace Morey of Salem State, Shannon Gover and Erin Lane of Westfield State and Madison Ferrara of Worcester State.
