Fitchburg State College captured the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship, as the Falcons of 12th year Head Coach Beth Bacher posted a perfect 5-0 mark in league competition this fall.
Fitchburg State, which posted an overall mark of 14-5 and advanced to the semi-finals of the Little East Conference Championships, was led in scoring by senior forward Paula Bartalamia (Tewksbury, Mass.), who netted 13 goals and three assists for 29 points, and junior forward Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass.), who collected eight goals and nine assists for 25 points.
Junior goalkeeper Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass.) notched 11 victories, including six shutouts, while posting an 0.97 goals against average to go with an .864 saves percentage in the Falcon cage in 2009.
Framingham State finished second in MASCAC play with a 4-1 mark, followed by Bridgewater State (3-2), Salem State (2-3), Westfield State (1-4) and Worcester State (0-5). All six MASCAC member institutions' primary affiliation for field hockey is in the Little East, as both Fitchburg State and Framingham State advanced to the conference semi-finals.
