UMass Dartmouth's Sanchez Named d3football.com All-American
D3football.com has announced their 2024 All-America Team selections and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete Angel Sanchez was recognized. The senior wide receiver was named to the Second Team Offense All-America Team.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – D3football.com has announced their 2024 All-America Team selections and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete Angel Sanchez was recognized. The senior wide receiver was named to the Second Team Offense All-America Team.
Sanchez becomes just the second Corsairs' player to garner D3football.com All-America honors – the first being tackle Pat Sullivan, who was an Honorable Mention Offense All-America selection in 2016.
An All-Region 1 First Team Offense selection in November, Sanchez played in all 11 games for the Corsairs in 2024. A captain from Providence, R.I., he made 81 catches, compiling 1,088 yards with an average of 13.4 yards per catch and 98.9 yards per contest. Additionally, he recorded 16 receiving touchdowns on the season.
Sanchez currently ranks ninth amongst Division III receivers in receiving TD's, while also ranking 12th in receptions per game (7.4) and 25th in receiving yards per game. He is the MASCAC leader in receiving TD's, receiving yards, receiving yards per game and receptions per game.
As a junior, Sanchez played in all 11 games for the Corsairs, leading the team in receiving with 43 receptions for 854 yards, including 19.9 yards per catch. He averaged 77.7 receiving yards per game with nine total touchdowns, amassing three games with 100+ receiving yards. Finished second in the MASCAC in total receiving yards, receiving yards per catch, and touchdowns and was third overall in receiving yards per game.
Sanchez also returned 13 punts for a total of 223 yards and a touchdown, leading the MASCAC in total punt return yardage. At season's end, he was named to the D3football.com All-Region 1 Second Team Offense, while garnering All-MASCAC First Team Offense honors.
During his sophomore campaign and his first in Division III, Sanchez played in nine games, leading the team in all receiving categories. He logged 59 receptions for 1,181 yards - finishing first in the conference and eighth in the nation. He also notched 20.02 yards per catch (second-highest mark in MASCAC) with 131.22 receiving yards per game - which was also first in the MASCAC and sceond overall in Division III. Sanchez also had nine total receiving TD's which was first in the conference. Additionally, he scored two touchdowns in three separate games on the season, while recording 100+ receiving yards in seven of nine games.
For his efforts, Sanchez was named a New England Football Writers Association DII/DIII All-New England Team honoree, while also garnering D3football.com All-Region 1 First Team Offense honors. He was also an All-MASCAC First Team Offense selection.
In his career, Sanchez played in 31 games, becoming the Corsairs all-time career leader in receiving yards – in a 133-yard performance in a 51-7 win over Bridgewater State - with 3,123 yards in just three seasons played. Totaling 183 receptions, he caught 33 touchdowns in his career, averaging 100.7 receiving yards per game and 17.1 yards per reception during that time. The 2024 season marked the second time in Sanchez's career that he eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in a season.
UMass Dartmouth concluded its incredible season on November 30, falling to Springfield College in the NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round. It marked the first appearance in the second round for the program. The Corsairs went 10-1 overall in 2024, winning their third straight MASCAC title after an impressive 9-0 record.
