MASCAC Football Weekly Awards 9/9
After the opening weekend of the 2024 season, Angel Sanchez of UMass Dartmouth, Cameron Monette of Fitchburg State, Cj Childs of Vermont State-Castleton, Emilo Cabey of Fitchburg State and Tyson Hall of Castleton take home the MASCAC Football weekly honors.
Offensive Player of the Week |
Sanchez was an offensive catalyst for the Corsairs in their 64-24 season opening win against Nichols. The senior wide receiver posted an impressive 139 yards with two touchdowns through two quarters of play. He averaged 15.4 yards per reception and one of his touchdowns was a 62-yard bomb on the opening drive of the game. Sanchez also returned two punts for 74 yards with a long of 40. |
Defensive Player of the Week |
Monette posted 11 tackles on three solo stops and eight assisted tackles as well as four sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss in the Falcons 12-0 triumph over Dean College on Saturday. |
Special Teams Player of the Week |
Childs came up with a clutch blocked field goal late in the third quarter in the 14-12 win over Norwich. With Castleton leading 14-6, he burst around the edge to block a 36-yard field goal attempt by the Cadets to keep Castleton’s lead at eight points. Childs also came up clutch on the potential game-tying two-point try by Norwich with less than a minute to play, breaking up the conversion attempt by getting a hand on the ball and knocking it away to preserve the victory for the Spartans.

Rookie of the Week |
Cabey finished wtih five receptions for 109 yards and one touchdown, including a 99 yard TD grab in the Falcons’ 12-0 triumph over Dean College on Saturday. |

Hall ripped off a 96-yard touchdown run on his first-ever snap for the Spartans, setting a program record for longest rush in school history. His third-quarter touchdown stood as the game-winning score, putting Castleton ahead 14-6 at the time in an eventual 14-12 victory to help Castleton win against Norwich for the first time since 2017. |
