MASCAC Football Weekly Awards 9/30
Dante Aviles-Santos of UMass Dartmouth, Nicolas Canales and Shane Drake of Bridgewater State and Corey Henderson of Westfield State take home the MASCAC Football Offensive, Defensive, Special Teams and Rookie of the Week honors.
Offensive Player of the Week |
Aviles-Santos helped UMass Dartmouth to a 60-10 win over VTSU Castleton and remain undefeated on the season. Aviles-Santos was 21-of-27 on the day, throwing for a season-high 352 yards and five touchdowns. He threw a 29-yard pass on the opening drive of the game, following it up with a five-yard toss to put the Corsairs up 14-0. Aviles-Santos went on to throw a 30-yard bomb, followed by an eight-yard and then 33-yard pass giving the Corsairs a 41-7 advantage. Aviles-Santos played three full quarters in the contest and the opening drive of the fourth before exiting the game. |
Defensive Player of the Week |
Canales notched eight tackles (five solo) including a career-high four sacks and 4 ½ tackles for loss to go along with a pair of quarterback hurries in the Bears’ 41-0 shutout victory over Framingham State. Helped limit the Rams to just 129 yards of total offense (-14 rushing). |
Special Teams Player of the Week |
Drake knocked through a pair of field goal attempts, converting from 23 and 38 yards, and averaged 39.5 yards on two punts with one inside the 20 and one fair catch in the Bears’ 41-0 MASCAC win over Framingham State. Also averaged 62.8 yards on eight kickoffs including three touchbacks. |
Rookie of the Week |
Henderson secured the game-sealing interception on the goal line on the final play of the game to propel the Owls to a 35-27 win over Worcester State on Saturday afternoon while also adding a pair of tackles. Weekly Report 9/30 |
