MASCAC Football Weekly Awards 12/2
John Giller and Anthony Weidtman of WestConn along with Shane Meerbott of UMass Dartmouth take home the final MASCAC Football Offensive, Special Teams and Defensive Player of the Week honors of the year.

Giller threw for 238 yards and a touchdown and ran for 165 yards and another score giving him 403 yards on total offense in WestConn’s 45-14 win over Alfred in the Bushnell Bowl. Giller completed 20 of 31 passes averaging nearly 12 yards per completion and averaged nearly 13 yards per carry on the ground including his 11-yard touchdown run which broke open a close game in the second quarter. He was named the Bushnell Bowl MVP and was selected as the New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award recipient as the top Division II/III Player in New England for that week’s games. |
Defensive Player of the Week
Shane Meerbott, UMass Dartmouth
Graduate, Defensive Back, Cumberland, RI
Meerbott had a career day in the Corsairs NCAA Second Round Tournament game
at Springfield on Saturday, recording a career and game-high 19 tackles. Of his tackles,
one was for a loss of two yards, while an impressive 14 were solo efforts. He posted four
tackles in the first, five in the second, six in the third quarter and four in the final frame.
Meerbott also had an interception nearing the end of the second quarter - marking his
sixth of the season.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Anthony Weidtman, WestConn
Senior, Punter/Kicker, Nesconset, NY
Weidtman kicked a 33-yard field goal and was 6-for-6 on PAT’s in WestConn’s
45-14 win against Alfred in the Bushnell Bowl. He also averaged 59.1 yards on
seven kickoffs with four touchbacks.
