MASCAC Football Weekly Awards 11/18
After the conclusion of the regular season Saturday, Kevin Brown of UMass Dartmouth, Mileeq Green of WestConn, Shane Drake of Bridgewater State and Eric Lovell of Westfield State claim the MASCAC Football weekly awards.
Offensive Player of the Week |
Brown, in the Corsairs 47-42 victory at Plymouth State, Brown recorded 133 rushing yards on 16 carries (8.3 yards per carry) with two scores and another on special teams to lead the Corsairs to a 9-0 league record and third straight MASCAC title. As the Corsairs trailed 35-27, he punched through with a 1-yard run, tying the game at 35-all. Then with 6:39 to play, he recorded a game-high 69-yard rush for the touchdown to put UMassD up 47-35 - a score which held off the Panthers’ late charge. Brown’s first TD came on special teams when, tied 14-all with 2:03 remaining in the first quarter, he returned the ensuing kickoff 68-yards for the touchdown, giving the Corsairs a lead they would carry into the second quarter. |
Defensive Player of the Week |
Green made six tackles, three solo, and an interception that he returned 32 yards for a touchdown to collect the Sean Salisbury Trophy MVP award in WestConn’s 58-17 win against VT State-Castleton. |
Special Teams Player of the Week |
Drake connected on field goal attempts of 41 and 25 yards, and averaged 47.3 yards on four punts with a school-record long of 76 yards and three punts inside the 20 in the Bears’ 20-0 Cranberry Bowl win over Mass. Maritime. Also averaged 61.2 yards on five kickoffs with a pair of touchbacks. |
Rookie of the Week |
Lovell picked off a pair of passes, including one with a 24-yard return to the Fitchburg State 7-yard line to set up an Owls touchdown, and added a pair of tackles as Westfield defeated the Falcons, 22-7. |
