MASCAC Football Weekly Awards 10/7
John Giller of WestConn, Kymauny Roland of Framingham State, Shane Drake of Bridgewater State and Andrew Lovell of Westfield State are the MASCAC Football Offensive, Defensive, Special Teams and Rookie of the Week award winners.
Offensive Player of the Week |
Giller completed 21 of 24 passes (87.5%) for 328 yards and threw touchdown passes of 18 and 72 yards and also rushed the ball 10 times for 58 yards and scored three touchdowns on two three-yard runs and one two-yard run in the Wolves’ 48-21 win over Plymouth State. In the second quarter against the Panthers, Giller ran for a touchdown to tie the game at 14-14 and threw for an 18-yard touchdown to give WestConn the lead for good at 21-14. |
Defensive Player of the Week |
Roland finished with six tackles, all solo, two for a loss, a sack, a pass break up and a blocked kick in the Rams’ 25-22 win over Fitchburg State. Had a key tackle to stop a Fitchburg State drive in the fourth to seal the game for the Rams. |
Special Teams Player of the Week |
Drake averaged 43.7 yards on three punts with a long of 49, two inside the 20 and one fair catch in the Bears’ 42-7 MASCAC win over Worcester State. Also booted a 19-yard field goals (only attempt) and averaged 60 yards on seven kickoffs with a pair of touchbacks. |
Rookie of the Week |
Lovell played a key role in the turnover game, recording an interception and recovering a pair of fumbles in the Owls’ 24-10 setback at VT State-Castleton. Stopped one drive with an interception at his own four-yard line, then recovered a fumble in the end zone which was forced at the goal line to thwart another scoring drive. His other fumble recovery came at the Castleton 4-yard line and set the Owls up for a game-tying field goal before the halftime. |
