MASCAC Football Weekly Awards 10/28
Kamryn Holmes of WestConn, Shane Meerbott of UMass Dartmouth, Jonah Bassett Jr. of Plymouth State and Dexter Brown of Fitchburg State grab the MASCAC Football weekly awards.
Offensive Player of the Week |
Holmes rushed 18 times for 107 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per carry, and scored five rushing touchdowns in WestConn’s 61-7 win over Worcester State to help the Wolves remain unbeaten in league play. Holmes scored twice each on runs of one and seven yards with his fifth touchdown coming on a five-yard run. He also caught a pass for six yards. |
Defensive Player of the Week
Shane Meerbott, UMass Dartmouth
Graduate, Defensive Back, Cumberland, RI
Meerbott had an outstanding game as UMass Dartmouth defeated Bridgewater State, 51-7, recording eight
tackles, including a team-high six solos. He also had two interceptions for 54 yards, including one for a pick-six.
He posted his first interception late in the second quarter for a 17-yard return. Meerbott then intercepted
another pass, returning it 37-yards for the touchdown.
Special Teams Player of the Week |
Bassett blocked a punt and returned it to the house for a 59-yard touchdown return to help the Panthers top Westfield State, 35-7, on Saturday. Leading 21-0 early in the third quarter, Bassett, Jr. got around the left side and had a clear path to the kicker at midfield. He extended to block the kick and scooped up the ball at the WSU 39-yard line before cruising up the left sideline for the TD. He added five tackles (three solo). |
Rookie of the Week |
Brown totaled five tackles on four solo stops and one assisted tackle as well one sack and two tackles for loss in the Falcons’ 26-6 victory over Vermont State Castleton Spartans on Saturday. |
