MASCAC Baseball Weekly Awards 3/4
As the baseball season got underway, the Westfield State duo of Sam Palmer and Ryan Lapierre claim MASCAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week while Antonio Belgrove of Salem State is Rookie of the Week.
Player of the Week |
Palmer batted .333 (5-15) with two doubles, a triple, two RBI, three runs scored, four stolen bases and .600 slugging percentage in a 3-1 week for the Owls. Went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored in the 11-8 win over St. Joseph’s (CT). Was 3-for-7 with a double triple, RBI and run scored in the doubleheader split with Springfield. Came out of the bullpen to record the save with a three-strikeout inning in the 4-2 win over Springfield. |
Pitcher of the Week |
Lapierre was nearly flawless in the Owls season opener, tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits, striking out seven and walking none, as the Owls topped the University of St. Joseph, 4-1 to start a doubleheader sweep. |
Rookie of the Week |
Belgrove batted .333 (4-12) with two triples, RBI, walk, two runs scored and a .667 slugging percentage in a 1-2 week for the Vikings. Went 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored in his first career start to lead Salem State over Gordon, 7-4. Added a triple and walk in the 5-1 setback to Endicott. |
