Westfield State's Palmer Named NCBWA DIII National Rookie of the Week
Westfield State first-year Samuel Palmer (Medfield, Mass.) received national recognition this past week, earning the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III National Rookie of the Week, for the week ending April 3, 2022.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year Samuel Palmer (Medfield, Mass.) received national recognition this past week, earning the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III National Rookie of the Week, for the week ending April 3, 2022.
Palmer, who was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, placed as a member of the national players of the week after slashing .556 (10-for-18) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, and seven RBI. He also added five runs scored, a stolen base and a .944 slugging percentage as the Owls went 3-1 on the week.
The two-way, first-year standout continued his torrid stretch at the plate on Tuesday afternoon in a 7-2 win against Amherst, belting a two-run home run in the first inning while also scoring three times.
Over the last four games, Palmer has settled into the two spot in the batting order, recording eight hits in 16 at bats with a home run, seven RBI, and six runs scored.
Westfield State will host Mass. Maritime in MASCAC action on Friday at 3:30 P.M. from Bud and Jim Hagan Field before travelling to Bourne, Mass. to play the Buccaneers for the remaining two games of the series.
