The Worcester State duo of Mike Chaves Jr. and Ben Smith claim the first MASCAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors while Westfield State's Nick Marshall is Rookie of the Week after they started their season 2-0.

Chaves Jr. went 4-for-8 (.500) with a triple, two home runs, four runs scored, seven RBI and a walk with a .1.500 slugging percentage and .556 on-base percentage in a 2-0 week for the Lancers. Was 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, four RBI and three runs scored in the 25-11 win over Dean College. Added two more hits, including a home run with three RBI and a run scored in the 11-0 win over Nichols College.

Pitcher of the Week |
Smith made two appearances, going 1-0 with no earned runs, nine strikeouts and four hits for the Lancers. Tossed five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and did not issue a walk, allowing just three singles in the 11-0 win over Nichols College. Threw a scoreless inning in the season-opening win against Dean College, while striking out the side.

Marshall went 3-for-4 (.750), including a double and solo home run, four runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases with a 1.750 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage in the Owls’ season-opening doubleheader sweep of Springfield College. |
