Sullo Headlines 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball All-Conference Team
For the second straight year, Massachusetts Maritime catcher Logan Sullo has earned the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors and headlines the all-conference squad as voted by the eight coaches from around the league.
Westfield, Mass. — For the second straight year, Massachusetts Maritime catcher Logan Sullo has earned the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors and headlines the all-conference squad as voted by the eight coaches from around the league.
The sophomore from Acushnet, Mass. helped the Buccaneers to an 11-3 conference record and the second seed in the MASCAC Tournament. At the end of the regular season, he led the league in batting average (.429), on base percentage (.531) and slugging percentage (.735) while tallying the second most triples (4), third most home runs (5) and seventh most RBI (25).
Sean Buckland of Salem State earned the 2016 MASCAC Pitcher of the Year after leading the Vikings to the regular season title and top seed in the tournament. He finished the season with the best record in the league at 7-0 overall while adding six complete games, two shutouts, 49 strikeouts and a 2.85 ERA.
Playing in his first season on the mound for Westfield State, John Gegetskas is the 2016 MASCAC Rookie of the Year. He closed out the regular season with the second best ERA (1.71), third most complete games (4) with 36 strikeouts and a shut out. First year coach Kevin Barnaby of Fitchburg State has earned the 2016 Champion’s Choice Baseball Coach of the Year after leading the Falcons to a 10-4 record and the third seed in the MASCAC Tournament.
Landing on the MASCAC first team all-conference along with Sullo, Buckland and Gegetskas are Bridgewater State’s Ryan Feeney, Fitchburg State’s Brendan Cutler, Massachusetts Maritime’s Connor Kennedy, Salem State’s Jose Cedano, Dan Connors, Mike Davis and Richard Fecteau, Westfield State’s Danny Dimatteo and Worcester State’s Jake Ryan.
Making the MASCAC second team are Bridgewater State’s David Holmes and Travis Ritchie, Fitchburg State’s Javier Lozada, Framingham State’s Jon Chapman, Cole Josselyn, Kyle Pileski, Anthony Venuti and Ryan Wardwell, Massachusetts Maritime’s Kyle Kennedy and Jake Petruzzelli and Salem State’s Joe White.
