Three Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes along with Massachusetts Maritime head coach Bob Corradi have earned a spot on the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England All-Star Teams as announced by the league this week.
Zack Kirby of Framingham State, Logan Sullo of Massachusetts Maritime and Richard Fecteau all were named to either the first or second team. Corradi earned Co-Coach of the Year along with MIT head coach Andy Barlow.
Freshman catcher/outfielder Sullo added another award to his outstanding rookie season after earning first team all-ECAC New England honors as a utility player. A native of Acushnet, Mass. and a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, Sullo earned the nod as both the 2015 MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Year after batting a league-leading .446 to go with eight doubles, six triples, a pair of homers and 18 RBI. Logan also led the conference with a .543 on-base percentage and a .797 slugging percentage, and he became the first Buccaneer to cop MASCAC Player of the Year honors and the third player in program history to earn league Rookie of the Year accolades.
Corradi guided his crew to 17 overall triumphs this past spring and led Massachusetts Maritime to its first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship in 33 years, and for that accomplishment he was recognized by his peers as the MASCAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
Fecteau, who was also an ECAC Division III New England first-team selection in 2014, helped Salem State to the MASCAC Championship and NCAA regional tournament. A first-team All-MASCAC second baseman, and a New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association and ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region selection, Fecteau closed out the season with a .363 batting average, while leading the league in doubles, (18) and second in hits (58), while earning all-conference honors.
Kirby continues to accrue honors after an outstanding junior season that saw him compile a 7-2 record in 13 appearances with 106 strikeouts and just 19 walks in 85 innings of work. Kirby led the MASCAC in strikeouts averaging just over 11 per game and was among the conference leaders in victories and ERA (1.38). Kirby was previously named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-American Second Team and to the All-New England First Team by ABCA/Rawlings, the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Coaches Association (NEIBA) and D3baseball.com. Kirby was also recognized as the MASCAC Pitcher of the Year and a first team All-MASCAC selection.
