Six MASCAC Baseball Student-Athletes Recognized by NEIBA
Six Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes have been named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division III All-New England Teams.

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Six Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes have been named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division III All-New England Teams.
Stephen Drury Jr. of Fitchburg State, Mike Andrews of Framingham State, Richard Fecteau of Salem State and David Ruggiero of Worcester State earned first team honors while Ryan Hyjek and Brett Cahill of Salem State earned third team accolades.
Along with their recognition on the NEIBA First Team, Drury Jr. and Andrews shared the 2014 MASCAC Rookie of the Year accolade. Drury, Jr had a solid first year for the Falcons in the outfield, leading the MASCAC in batting average (.438), slugging percentage (.742), on base percentage (.531) and triples (9). He was also second in doubles (15) and runs scored (35), third in hits (56), tied for sixth in RBIs (27) and ninth with 11 swipes.
Andrews had an outstanding rookie season for the
Rams, going 7-1 in nine appearances with a new school single season
record ERA of 1.25. During the season, he tossed five
complete games and two shutouts in 64 2/3 innings of work.
Opponents hit just .192 off Andrews who allowed just nine earned
runs all season with 33 strikeouts and just 10 walks.
In addition to earning NEIBA recognition, Salem State's Fecteau was named MASCAC Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference and led the Vikings to a share of the MASCAC regular season championship. The sophomore led the league in hits (63), runs scored (47), and doubles (24).
Hyjek, the MASCAC Pitcher of the Year, anchored the Salem State staff with a league-high seven victories, while sporting a 2.16 ERA, with 51 strikeouts.Cahill, an All-New England selection in 2012 as a catcher, earned a spot as a designated hitter this year. The senior led the Vikings with a .408 batting average during the regular season, and knocked in a MASCAC best 32 runs.
Helping his team to the MASCAC Baseball Title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, Ruggiero adds NEIBA First Team honoree to his list of awards, including MASCAC First Team All-Conference. The junior currently holds a .396 average which is good for fourth in the MASCAC, and is also leading the Lancers in doubles (9), triples (5), slugging percentage (.562) and on base percentage (.434).
