Buzzards Bay, Mass.--  Massachusetts Maritime Head Baseball Coach Bob Corradi has been selected as the recipient of the 2012 Andy Baylock Distinguished Service Award from the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association, as the longtime Buccaneer mentor is being honored “as a person who has significantly contributed to the betterment of New England college baseball.”  Corradi will receive the award at the 2012 NEIBA All-Star Game on Monday, June 4^th at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass.

This past spring marked Corradi’s 40^th season on the diamond at Massachusetts Maritime, as the three-time Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year has amassed 536 career victories during his storied tenure.  He guided the Buccaneers to six straight 20-win seasons from 1978 through 1983, including a school-record 28-11-1 mark in 1982 that saw Massachusetts Maritime capture both the MASCAC and ECAC Division III New England crowns, and in April 2009 he became the 29^th active coach in NCAA Division III play to reach the 500 career win plateau with an 8-0 triumph at Framingham State.

Corradi has led the Buccaneers to six post-season appearances (most recently in 2008) and has mentored nearly 70 all-conference performers, four Division III All-America selections and six all-New England honorees along the way.  Over the course of his four-decade tenure, he has coached over 1,400 student-athletes on the diamond since starting the NCAA varsity program back in 1973.

In addition to his accomplishments at the collegiate level, Corradi also enjoyed great success as a long time coach in both the Senior Babe Ruth Team Cape Cod All-Stars and American Legion Post 188 programs in Sandwich, Mass.  A member of the Cape Cod League Hall of Fame Committee, he played an integral role in bringing the Bourne Braves franchise back to the prestigious league in the late 1980’s.

The Baylock Award, named for the longtime head coach at the University of Connecticut, is the second major accolade that Corradi will received during his distinguished career, as he was the recipient of the organization’s Jack Butterfield Award in 2005 that is presented annually to an active New England coach who exhibits integrity and dedication to the game of college baseball.  Corradi has been a longtime NEIBA member and is a voting member on the organization’s Division III All-Star selection committee.

Corradi becomes the second MASCAC mentor to earn the Baylock Award, joining his longtime friend and former North Adams State Head Coach Joe Zavattaro, who received the accolade in 1992.
