The MASCAC Council of Presidents and Commissioner Angela Baumann are pleased to announce the addition of Marymount University and Marywood University as affiliate members in the sport of men's golf.
Marymount and Marywood will join the four core members of the MASCAC; MCLA, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University plus affiliate Springfield College as men’s golf competing teams. They will vie for the MASCAC Men's Golf Championship September 28-29 at the Ranch Golf Club hosted by Westfield State.
“We are excited to welcome Marymount and Marywood as men’s golf affiliates this fall to the MASCAC,” Commissioner Angela Baumann said. “The membership has been exploring options for some time making this a monumental moment as we solidify our MASCAC men’s golf sponsorship.”
Marymount men's golf joins the MASCAC fresh off its first conference championship and NCAA appearance in program history. The Saints boasted four All-Conference selections, including the Rookie of the Year, en route to the 2024 Atlantic East Championship. Marymount is coached by Daniel Neben, the Director of Instruction at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm. Since joining Marymount for the spring 2022 season, Neben has coached six All-Conference selections and the 2024 AEC Rookie of the Year, Chase Manion.
“The student-athlete experience is at the core of Marymount Athletics ethos, and this includes providing the opportunity for our student-athletes to compete for a championship,” said Ryan Wildenhain, Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Development at Marymount. “With that, Marymount is thrilled to join the MASCAC as an affiliate member for men’s golf. We are grateful for Commissioner Angela Baumann and the MASCAC members for welcoming us with open arms. In addition, we look forward to competing for a MASCAC Men’s Golf Championship this fall in Westfield, Massachusetts.”
Marywood's men's golf program is entering its 13th year of competition. The Pacers won back-to-back Colonial States Athletic Conference championships in 2015 and 2016. Marywood was tied for 20th place nationally at the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships. Led by head coach Pat Lloyd, the Pacers finished in third place in the Atlantic East Conference with two student-athletes finishing in the top five overall last season.
"Marywood University is excited to join the MASCAC as an affiliate member in men's golf,” Marywood Director of Athletics and Recreation Andrew Smith said. “In their brief history, men's golf has been one of our strongest programs. It was imperative that we found a home for our athletes that allowed them the opportunity to compete for an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, and we are thankful to the MASCAC Presidents, Administration and Athletic Directors for allowing their Conference to be that place. We look forward to competing with and against the other MASCAC schools."
