Members of the Buccaneer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Department of Athletics staff welcomed students from the Riverview School in East Sandwich to campus on Monday afternoon for a special tour of the Academy’s simulator as a well as a cross country race that took place at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Buccaneer SAAC cadets joined with the Riverview students for a second straight year in a day filled with fun, competition and learning, as Riverview students got an up-close look at the Massachusetts Maritime vessel simulator that they described as a “giant X-Box game”.  After completing the cross country event around the Clean Harbors Stadium track, students and staff from both schools closed out the day with a pizza party inside the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

The Riverview School is an independent coeducational boarding/day school for students, ages 11-22, with complex language, learning and cognitive challenges located on Cape Cod.  Since 1957, Riverview has been recognized as a leader in the field of special education.  The School is committed to developing student competence and confidence in academic, social and independent living skills.  Students hail from every region of the United States and from many foreign countries.

The second annual Riverview School event capped a busy week for the Buccaneer SAAC, which last week welcomed Ellen McElligott, Director of Development for The Pat Tillman Foundation, to campus to learn more about the Tillman Scholars Program.  Over the last four years, Massachusetts Maritime has raised more than $11,000 in support of the Tillman Foundation and its on-going mission to support military families.
