NCAA Fall Tournament Brackets Announced
The NCAA has announced the brackets for volleyball and men's and women's soccer today which will feature a MASCAC school competing in each tournament.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced the brackets for the volleyball and men's and women's soccer tournaments today.
Representing the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference in volleyball are the 2013 tournament champions Westfield State. They received a first round match-up with Clarkson out of New York on November 15.
The Owls finished their season 19-14 while also capturing the MASCAC regular season and tournament titles. This is the fourth appearance in five years at the NCAA tournament for Westfield State.
The Golden Knights, who are also the NCAA Regional hosts, had a 33-6 record which included winning the Liberty League championship. Whoever wins the first round match will move on to compete against either New York University or Nazareth College.
After taking down the number one seed yesterday at the MASCAC Men's Soccer Championship, the Bridgewater State Bears earned themselves a match-up with Amherst College on November 16.
Finishing the season 10-7-2, the Bears won their semifinal and championship games by only one goal in each and will take on a Lord Jeffs team that went 15-0-2 and captured the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Amherst hosts the NCAA Regional event with the winner of their contest will compete against either Gordon or Eastern Connecticut State in the second round on November 17.
Making their first appearance in the NCAA Women's Soccer Regionals since 2003, the Bridgewater State Bears will take on the NESCAC's Middlebury College on November 16 with the winner advancing to a second round match-up with either Scranton or Endicott.
The Bears won their third conference tournament yesterday after beating Worcester State 3-1 and finished the season with a 9-8-2 record. The Panthers had a 13-1-3 record and won the NESCAC conference tournament which helped them earn the chance to host the first two rounds.
