Shayne Toporowski Tabbed New Worcester State Men’s Ice Hockey Coach
Director of Athletics Michael Mudd has announced that Shayne Toporowski will take the reigns as the sixth Worcester State University men’s ice hockey coach. Toporowski replaces John Guiney who resigned last month after guiding the Lancers for 22 seasons.

Westfield State's Devine and Perreault Pursuing Professional Dreams
Two former Westfield State University star athletes are now showcasing their skills in the professional ranks. Matt Devine ’13, who led the nation in blocked shots for two consecutive years, is playing basketball in Portugal. And Vince Perreault ’14, the 2014 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) player of the year, is a member of the Knoxville, Tenn., Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

Westfield State Alum Laviolette Named Nashville Predators Head Coach
Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has hired 2006 Stanley Cup-winning coach and Westfield State Alum Peter Laviolette as the second head coach in team history and signed him to a multi-year contract.

Westfield State Alum Laviolette Named U.S. National Team Coach
Peter Laviolette has been named head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team that will participate in the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship it was announced today by USA Hockey. The event will take place in Minsk, Belarus, May 9-25. Team USA is the defending bronze medalist in the event.

After winning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Tournament on Saturday, the Salem State Vikings received a bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament where they will play the Norwich Cadets in the opening round on March 12.

Salem State Claims MASCAC Men's Hockey Conference Title
The top seeded Vikings of Salem State claimed the 2014 men’s ice hockey championship of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) after defeating second seed Plymouth State 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Rocket Arena. With the victory, the Vikings earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, their first since 1995, and improve to 16-9-2 on the year.
