PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Pymouth State defensemen Zach Sarig was honored Wednesday with selection to the New England Hockey Writers Association 2013-14 Men’s Division II/III All-Star Team.
The junior from Reading, Pa. is one of six defensemen voted to the All-New England Team for Divisions II and III. Sarig is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) who has helped Plymouth State to three straight regular season championships and the 2012 MASCAC Tournament title.
A 6’3”, 220-pounder, Sarig is a big, powerful defenseman who has one of, if not the strongest slap shots in the league. He led all MASCAC blueliners and tied for eighth overall in scoring with 25 points on nine goals and 16 assists. He ranked sixth nationally in Division III in points per game (0.93) among defensemen. Sarig had five multiple-point games, and he showcased his mighty slap shot early in the season when two of his shots went through the net for Panther goals.
PSU finished the season with a 14-11-2 overall record after sharing the MASCAC regular season title with Salem State University, both teams with 11-5-2 conference marks. The Panthers advanced to their third straight MASCAC championship game, falling to Salem State in this year’s title contest, 5-1.
