WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's volleyball will face New York University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, in a game that will be played at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. on Thursday, November 10.
The Owls (13-11) are in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time, earning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's automatic bid by winning the league tournament on Saturday.
NYU (25-6) is the sixth-ranked team in the country in the latest AVCA coaches poll.
The Owls and the Violets have met in the NCAA tournament before, as the two teams squared off in the first round in 2010, with NYU emerging as a 3-0 victor on that occasion.
Westfield and NYU are in an eight-team regional, with the winner facing the winner of the Salisbury State (Md.) vs. Endicott (Mass.) game in the second round. The other side of the Middletown bracket includes host Wesleyan facing Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) in the first round, along with Stevenson (Md.) matching up with Williams (Mass.).
Opening round games are slated for Thursday, with the regional semifinals on Friday, and regional championship games on Saturday. Each regional winner advances to the elite eight, which will be held in Pittsburgh, Pa.
