Westfield State Women’s Soccer to Meet Emerson in NCAA Tournament
The Westfield State women's soccer team will meet Emerson College in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament, which will be played at Scranton University in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 12 with a time still to be determined.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State women's soccer team will meet Emerson College in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament, which will be played at Scranton University in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 12 with a time still to be determined.
The Owls (15-3-1) enter the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in program history after receiving the automatic qualifying bid for winning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tournament championship with a 1-0 victory over Fitchburg State this past Sunday. Westfield joins the 64-team field for the second straight year as the Owls fell 4-0 to #1 nationally ranked and eventual 2021 tournament runner-up The College of New Jersey last season.
Emerson (12-3-5) earns a spot in the tournament after securing the automatic qualifying bid in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 1-0 victory over Clark University in the title game to win their first conference championship in program history.
The Owls and Lions are positioned in a four-team regional bracket with the winning team squaring off against the winner of Bowdoin College and University of Scranton (Penn.) in the round of 32 on Sunday, November 13.
Opening round games are scheduled to begin on November 11-12 with second round games on the 12th and 13th. NCAA sectionals will take place the following weekend with the tournament semifinals and National Championship set for December 2-4 at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia.
